The thoracolumbar region or midback is not familiar to many people. Most think of their back as one large piece. The thoracic spine actually supports the rib cage and contributes to support of the back and upper body.
Thoracic Disc Herniation
As in the other parts of the spine, there are cushioning discs between the vertebral bones. These discs can rupture and impinge on a nerve, causing pain down an extremity.
